Space agencies aim to send humans to Mars. But how can we provide astronauts with food, oxygen, and other consumables? Part of the solution could lie in using plants and microorganisms from Mars’ natural resources. Dr. Cyprien Verseux from Center for Materials and Processes (MAPEX) explains the role of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) in such a system.
